Who Will Reach the Semi Final?
- From the North Group, Nottinghamshire, Birmingham Bears (Warwickshire), Lancashire, and Worcestershire have the potential to reach the quarterfinals, while from the South Group, we're putting our money on Surrey, Essex, Hampshire, and Somerset.
- We predict it'll be an all-South Group semi-final lineup this time, with the four semi-finalists being Surrey, Essex, Hampshire, and Somerset.
- Somerset and Surrey will be the likely finalists.
Who Will Top the North & South Groups?
- Birmingham Bears to top the North Group: 5.50 (Paripesa)
- Somerset to top the South Group: 5.00 (Melbet)
- Will Smead, Laurie Evans, and James Vince will likely emerge as the top batsmen of the tournament.
- Likewise, we can expect John Turner, Grant Steward, and Craig Overton to be the pick of the bowlers.
- Pacers who can swing the ball will have the maximum chance to take wickets. Spinners are not expected to get a lot of purchase off the English wickets and conditions.

Vitality T20 Blast Teams
Ready to dive into the action on the best T20 Blast betting sites in India? Here, we give you a rundown of all the teams, empowering you to make more informed bets on the tournament. And if you wish to stay abreast of the latest team news and updates, simply check out this space on ESPNcricinfo.
1. Somerset
- Captain: Lewis Gregory
- Overseas players: Migael Pretorius (South Africa), Matt Renshaw, Will Sutherland and Riley Meredith (Australia)
- Best performance: Champions (2005, 2023)
- 2023 Standing: Champion
- 2023 Leading runscorer: Will Smeed (523)
- 2023 Leading wicket-taker: Matt Henry (31)
- Key players: Will Smeed, Lewis Gregory, Craig Overton
The defending champions and the most balanced squad, Somerset is the best bet to win two back-to-back titles, a feat never achieved before. The squad boasts a flawless batting and bowling unit. Though they had to part ways with Matt Henry, the leading wicket-taker of last season, they have roped in the Australian pace duo of Will Sutherland and Riley Meredith. Somerset have been qualifying for the semi-finals over the past three seasons and are certainly the biggest T20 Blast favourites.
2. Essex
- Captain: Tom Westley
- Overseas players: Simon Harmer and Dean Elgar (South Africa), Daniel Sams (Australia)
- Best performance: Champions (2019)
- 2023 Standing: Runner-up
- 2023 Leading runscorer: Daniel Sams (419)
- 2023 Leading wicket-taker: Daniel Sams (25)
- Key players: Daniel Sams, Matt Critchley, Michael Pepper
The runner-up from last season, Essex is popular for starting slow but eventually picking up pace as the tournament progresses. Their biggest strength is the quality of the all-rounders in their squad. Also, their overseas recruits are available for the entire tournament.
3. Hampshire
- Captain: James Vince
- Overseas players: Mohammad Abbas (Pakistan), Kyle Abbott (South Africa), Ben McDermott and Michael Neser (Australia)
- Best performance: Champions (2010, 2012, 2022)
- 2023 Standing: Semi-final
- 2023 Leading runscorer: James Vince (670)
- 2023 Leading wicket-taker: John Turner (21)
- Key players: James Vince, Mohammad Abbas, John Turner
The three-time Vitality Blast champions had a great season last year, unfortunately losing to the Essex Eagles in a rain-affected semi-final. This time too, they will be a team to watch out for. They have been one of the most consistent outfits of late, having qualified for the semis six times in the last 10 seasons. With power hitters like James Vince and Ben McDermott, and overseas seamers like Mohammad Abbas and Kyle Abbott, they are certainly favourites to win the Vitality T20 Blast.
4. Surrey
- Captain: Chris Jordan
- Overseas players: Sean Abbott, Spencer Johnson and Aaron Hardie (Australia), Kemar Roach (West Indies)
- Best performance: Champions (2003)
- 2023 Standing: Semi-final
- 2023 Leading runscorer: Laurie Evans (563)
- 2023 Leading wicket-taker: Sam Curran (16)
- Key players: Laurie Evans, Will Jacks, Sam Curran
Another semi-finalist from last season, Surrey’s recent exploits have been largely courtesy of their domestic T20 specialists and big national-level players like Sam Curran and Will Jacks. Their batting unit has depth and looks strong, and they'll be eyeing their second title (the first one coming in 2003).
5. Warwickshire (Birmingham Bears)
- Captain: Alex Davies
- Overseas players: Hasan Ali and Aamer Jamal (Pakistan), Michael Rae (New Zealand)
- Best performance: Champions (2014)
- 2023 Standing: Quarterfinal
- 2023 Leading runscorer: Sam Hain (481)
- 2023 Leading wicket-taker: Dan Mousley (21)
- Key players: Sam Hain, Moeen Ali, Dan Mousley
The North Group topper of last season, Warwickshire (also known as the Birmingham Bears) enjoyed a splendid run in the group stage in 2023, losing only three matches. However, they lost to Essex by two wickets in the quarterfinal, which dashed their hopes for a second championship. This season, Warwickshire have retained their core team and recruited quality overseas players.
6. Lancashire
- Captain: Keaton Jennings
- Overseas players: Tom Bruce (New Zealand), Chris Green and Nathan Lyon (Australia)
- Best performance: Champions (2015)
- 2023 Standing: Quarterfinal
- 2023 Leading runscorer: Steven Croft (345)
- 2023 Leading wicket-taker: Luke Wood (18)
- Key players: Steven Croft, Luke Wood, Chris Green
Lancashire have a good mix of power, experience, and skill and are a potential contender for the title. The 2015 champion has been qualifying for the knockout stage for the past six seasons but has never succeeded in clinching the title. This year too, we expect them to reach the knockout stage.
7. Worcestershire
- Captain: Brett D’ Oliveira
- Overseas players: Jason Holder (West Indies), Usama Mir (Pakistan), Nathan Smith (New Zealand), Yadvinder Singh (India)
- Best performance: Champions (2018)
- 2023 Standing: Quarterfinal
- 2023 Leading runscorer: Adam Hose (397)
- 2023 Leading wicket-taker: Usama Mir (19)
- Key players: Adam Hose, Brett D’ Oliveira, Usama Mir
The 2018 T20 Blast winners finished at the bottom of the table in their group in 2022, and in 2023, they lost in the quarterfinal. This year, the team has signed a good mix of overseas players who will be available throughout the tournament. Expect them to reach the knockouts.
8. Nottinghamshire
- Captain: Joe Clarke
- Overseas players: Dane Paterson (South Africa), Ben Lister and Will Young (New Zealand), Fazalhaq Farooqi (Afghanistan)
- Best performance: Champions (2017, 2020)
- 2023 Standing: Quarterfinal
- 2023 Leading runscorer: Joe Clarke (432)
- 2023 Leading wicket-taker: Shaheen Afridi (22)
- Key players: Joe Clarke, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Alex Hales
Perhaps the most consistent team in the history of the tournament, Nottinghamshire have qualified for the knockout stage on 12 occasions in the last 14 years. Last year, they got knocked out in the quarterfinals by defending champions Somerset. Though they will be missing the services of last season’s top wicket-taker Shaheen Afridi, they have quality players in their ranks to challenge other teams' batters.
9. Kent
- Captain: Sam Billings
- Overseas players: Beyers Swanepoel (South Africa), Wes Agar, Xavier Bartlett and Charlie Stobo (Australia)
- Best performance: Champions (2007, 2021)
- 2023 Standing: 5th (South Group)
- 2023 Leading runscorer: Daniel Bell-Drummond (600)
- 2023 Leading wicket-taker: Grant Steward (24)
- Key players: Bell-Drummond, Grant Stewart, Xavier Bartlett
The 2021 Vitality Blast champions were a huge letdown over the past two seasons. In 2022, they finished at the bottom of the South Group table, while in 2023, the team finished fifth and couldn’t qualify for the knockout stages. This season, however, they have made some good signings and can hope to reach the quarterfinals.
10. Derbyshire
- Captain: David Lloyd
- Overseas players: Mohammad Amir (Pakistan), Daryn Dupavillon (South Africa), Blair Tickner (New Zealand)
- Best performance: Semi-final (2019)
- 2023 Standing: 6th (North Group)
- 2023 Leading runscorer: Wayne Madsen (580)
- 2023 Leading wicket-taker: Zak Chappell (26)
- Key players: Wayne Madsen, Zak Chappell, Mohammad Amir
For years, Derbyshire has failed to make an impact in T20 cricket. They have never reached the finals of any edition of the T20 Blast. Yes, they did make amends over the past six seasons, reaching the knockout stages three times. But as far as 2024 is concerned, we reckon they do not stand a chance of making it to the quarterfinals, considering their domestic recruits have been underperforming of late.
11. Sussex
- Captain: Tymal Mills
- Overseas players: Daniel Hughes and Nathan McAndrew (Australia), Jayden Seales (West Indies)
- Best performance: Champions (2009)
- 2023 Standing: 6th (South Group)
- 2023 Leading runscorer: Ravi Bopara (408)
- 2023 Leading wicket-taker: Tymal Mills (18)
- Key players: Tom Clark, Daniel Hughes, Tymal Mills
Sussex have qualified for the knockout stages from 2018–2021. However, the departure of players like Luke Wright and Rashid Khan has left a huge void in the team. Though they have good bowling options, their batting department looks weak, and it seems tough for them to reach the knockouts.
12. Northamptonshire
- Captain: David Willey
- Overseas players: Matthew Breetzke (South Africa), Sikandar Raza (Zimbabwe)
- Best performance: Champions (2013, 2016)
- 2023 Standing: 7th (North Group)
- 2023 Leading runscorer: Ricardo Vasconcelos (341)
- 2023 Leading wicket-taker: Andrew Tye (19)
- Key players: Ricardo Vasconcelos, Freddie Heldreich, David Willey
Northamptonshire have failed to reach the semi-finals each time since winning their second title in 2016. This season, they have signed some power hitters; however, their bowling department does not look convincing except for Andrew Tye. At CBA, we think they will have a difficult time qualifying.
13. Durham
- Captain: Alex Lees
- Overseas players: David Bedingham (South Africa), Scott Boland, Ben Dwarshuis and Ashton Turner (Australia)
- Best performance: Runners-up (2016)
- 2023 Standing: 8th (North Group)
- 2023 Leading runscorer: Ollie Robinson (380)
- 2023 Leading wicket-taker: Nathan Sowter (24)
- Key players: Alex Lees, Nathan Sowter, Ollie Robinson
Another inconsistent team, Durham has earned the tag of serial underperformers. They failed to qualify for knockouts in the last five years, coming in 8th in their group last season. Though they have signed quality overseas players this time to bolster their squad, their domestic players are woefully out of form.
14. Gloucestershire
- Captain: Jack Taylor
- Overseas players: Cameron Bancroft and Beau Webster (Australia), Zafar Gohar (Pakistan)
- Best performance: Runners-up (2007)
- 2023 Standing: 7th (South Group)
- 2023 Leading runscorer: Ben Charlesworth (299)
- 2023 Leading wicket-taker: Tom Smith (17)
- Key players: Ben Charlesworth, Tom Smith, Cameron Bancroft
They are a team in transition following the exit of established players such as Benny Howell, Ian Cockbain, and Ryan Higgins. They have invested a lot in the youth, though it has not reaped them dividends yet. Last year, they finished 7th in their group and will be looking to turn things around this time.
15. Yorkshire
- Captain: Shan Masood
- Overseas players: Shan Masood (Pakistan), Donovan Ferreira (South Africa)
- Best performance: Runners-up (2012)
- 2023 Standing: 5th (North Group)
- 2023 Leading runscorer: Dawid Malan (546)
- 2023 Leading wicket-taker: Jordan Thompson (20)
- Key players: Dawid Malan, Jordan Thompson, Adil Rashid
Another team that has failed to win the trophy, Yorkshire failed qualification last time by two points. Many of their key players who performed well last season have left the squad, such as David Willey and Tom Cadmore. However, this season, they have signed quality T20 specialists like Jordan Thompson and Adil Rashid. Also, last season's top run-getter, Dawid Malan, will be available for the entire tournament.
16. Glamorgan
- Captain: Kiran Carlson
- Overseas players: Mir Hamza (Pakistan), Colin Ingram (South Africa), Marnus Labuschagne (Australia)
- Best performance: Semi-final (2004, 2017)
- 2023 Standing: 8th (South Group)
- 2023 Leading runscorer: Chris Cooke (419)
- 2023 Leading wicket-taker: Jamie Mcllroy (19)
- Key players: Chris Cooke, Jamie Mcllroy, Kiran Carlson
Along with Derbyshire, Glamorgan, too, has been an underperformer in the tournament, not having reached the finals ever. This year, their bowling department, except for Jamie Mcllroy, looks weak. Add to that the unavailability of genuine power-hitters and T20 specialists in the team, and we won't be surprised if Glamorgan ends up with a lower-table finish.
17. Middlesex
- Captain: Stephen Eskinazi
- Overseas players: NA
- Best performance: Champions in 2008
- 2023 Standing: Last (South Group)
- 2023 Leading runscorer: Stephen Eskinazi (462)
- 2023 Leading wicket-taker: Tom Helm (12)
- Key players: Stephen Eskinazi, Tom Helm, Leus du Plooy
Trophyless since 2008, Middlesex has arguably been the biggest laggard over the past few seasons. In 2023, the team finished last in the South Group, their dismal performance being primarily the result of hapless batting and bowling units with no depth. Add to that, they have not signed any overseas players, citing financial difficulties. We expect them to finish at the bottom of the table.
18. Leicestershire
- Captain: Peter Handscomb
- Overseas players: Peter Handscomb and Marcus Harris (Australia), Wiaan Mulder (South Africa)
- Best performance: Champions (2004, 2006, 2011)
- 2023 Standing: Last (North Group)
- 2023 Leading runscorer: Rishi Patel (390)
- 2023 Leading wicket-taker: Callum Parkinson (17)
- Key players: Rishi Patel, Wiaan Mulder, Peter Handscomb
The three-time champions have been on a downward spiral since the past decade, having failed to reach the semi-finals since their title run in 2011. Their last year's performance was abysmal, registering only two victories from 14 matches. At CBA, we aren't putting our money on Leicestershire.
